Researchers are sometimes accused of spending too much time in the ivory tower. Adams Dudley has spent his career getting his hands dirty, working closely with or listening carefully to consumer groups, business leaders, and health organizations to choose projects. In this talk, he will describe how he ended up doing machine learning and natural language processing to address concerns raised by multiple stakeholder groups about making performance measurement faster, cheaper, and more accurate. He will also describe career options that could follow similar paths.
