The Dietary Guidelines for Americans serve as the basis for federal nutrition programs and policies across all federal agencies, including the USDA, FDA, CDC and NIH. It is used to set nutrition policy for all the federal nutrition assistance programs such as WIC, SNAP, and school breakfast and lunches. A Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee (DGAC) is established every 5 years to review science-based evidence and write a scientific report that is used as the basis for revision of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. Dr. Jamie Stang served on the 2020-2025 DGAC and will present on the process used to develop the Scientific Report and the key findings. Dr. Mary Story, who served on the 2015-2020 DGAC will be a discussant and provide her experience being on the committee.
