Christina Petersen, Education Program Specialist at the University of Minnesota, will present:
“Too Much Content: How to Design Courses to Maximize Learning When We Cannot Cover It All”
Abstract: Instructors have inherited a model for instruction that suggests we must cover all the material outlined in our overloaded syllabus, even though this model can divert time away from allowing students to engage meaningfully with the content during class. We refer to this as a content-coverage approach to teaching and propose that faculty move away from this approach to a more learner-centered one. We will discuss three evidence-based strategies that instructors can adopt to make this move in their teaching and provide examples of how other instructors have successfully accomplished this.
All are Welcome.
