Emma Benn, Director of Academic Programs for the Center of Biostatistics, Department of Population Health Science and Policy at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, will present:
“Diversity in Statistics: Building and Sustaining Effective Pipelines for Recruiting and Training the Next Generation of Innovators”
Abstract: There is no doubt that diversity is necessary for innovation in statistics, or any STEM field, if we are to find novel methodological solutions to complex real-world problems. However, increasing diversity and creating an inclusive culture in our field comes with a unique set of barriers. In this talk, I intend to discuss some of my lessons learned as it relates to developing, implementing, and sustaining initiatives aimed at increasing representation of diverse scholars in (bio)statistics, while also engaging in an interactive conversation about the remaining challenges.
A social tea will be held at 3:00 p.m. in A434 Mayo. All are Welcome
