Presented by Stef Jarvi
Director of Education for the Office of Equity and Diversity

Equity and diversity are fundamental to all of our work. We are increasingly seeking ways to ensure that the conversations taking place in our classrooms and office space are inclusive of the diverse views and experiences of our students, faculty, and staff. To adequately prepare the next generation of public health professionals we need to be prepared to competently discuss issues like race, class, gender, sexual orientation, disability, and religion (and others). Most instructors are adept at handling conversations dealing with their content areas. When conversations become more challenging, particularly around topics some find controversial and even “off topic,” how can we facilitate in such a way as to increase learning? This workshop will cover strategies for addressing issues of race, class, gender, sexual orientation, disability, and religion, among others that may arise, in order to support community and promote inclusivity in our teaching and learning.

All faculty are encouraged to attend this event here in WBOB as we will have the opportunity to ask questions specific to teaching in public health. This is a required training for all SPH faculty and teaching instructors to meet CEPH accreditation. Still, if you are unable to attend the workshop in WBOB, it is being offered to the larger University community at the following dates/times:

April 12th – 9-11AM in Northrup (Requires registration)
April 15th – 9-11AM St. Paul Student Center (Requires registration)
