The policy landscape of recreational cannabis in the United States is clearly changing. What started five years ago as just a few states pushing against a federal prohibition has quickly evolved into a movement. Recreational cannabis use by adults is legal in 10 US states, the District of Columbia, one inhabited territory, and on 3 Native-American reservations. Use and possession are decriminalized in another 13 states and one inhabited territory, and upwards of 10 states are actively considering legalizing (many by legislature), including the great state of Minnesota. In the talk I will give a “soup to nuts” overview of cannabis from a primarily public health perspective. Topics include patterns of use, products, key policy features, health-related outcomes, and data gaps.
All faculty, staff, and students welcome!
