  • Choosing Your Research Projects and Partners to Solve Social Problems: An Example Using Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing »

Moderator: Dr. Zobeida Bonilla

Panelists: Dr. Shalini Kulasingam, Dr. Alan Lifson, Dr. Simon Rosser, Dr. Kelly Searle, Ms. Gunna Kilian, Dr. Sebalda Leshabari

In 2019, Epidemiology & Community Health has an unprecedented number of faculty conducting studies in Africa. Grants include:

– Community Support Worker Intervention for People Living with HIV in Rural Ethiopia (Lifson)
– Cervical Cancer Self-screening for HIV Positive and Negative Women in Tanzania (Kulasingam)
– Training for Health Professionals in Tanzania (Rosser)
– Malaria Control in Southern Africa in Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Mozambique (Searle)
– Evaluating Meningococcal A Vaccines; Adolescent Uptake of HPV Vaccine in Rural Uganda (Basta)

Everyone interested in having a quick overview of the work we are doing, who wants to work in Africa, and/or who wants to network or collaborate, is warmly invited to attend this seminar. We will begin with a high level overview of our studies. Most of the session is designed to be an informal Q&A with our panel of faculty discussing our experience and encouraging others to consider building on this work. Ms. Gunna Kilian joins us to discuss staffing, budgeting, and logistics. We welcome Dr. Sebalda Leshabari, RNM, PhD, MPH and several faculty from Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) in Tanzania who will address the in country perspective. After the seminar (10-11am) ends, there will be an opportunity to discuss potential collaborations with our guests (11am-12pm).

All faculty, staff, and students welcome! Light refreshments will be served.
