Join us for a lively discussion of the current state of health reform in the United States. Professor Lynn Blewett will facilitate a discussion with the Kaiser Family Foundation’s Larry Levitt on recent and perhaps pivotal events in health policy. We will discuss the latest ruling by a federal judge on Kentucky and Arkansas Medicaid work requirements, the recent ruling on Association Health Plans, and the announcement by the President for renewed efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act. We will also look ahead to the future of the U.S. health care system and discuss the recent Medicare for All proposals, health care as a presidential election issues and Medicaid and Medicare buy-in proposals.
Larry Levitt is a thought leader and nationally-renowned expert on the financing and reform of the U.S. health care system. He is currently Senior Vice President for Health Reform at the Kaiser Family Foundation and brings years of experience to his work. He served as Senior Health Policy Advisor to the White House and the Department of Health and Human Services, working on the development of President Clinton’s Health Security Act. He also served as Special Assistant for Health Policy with California Insurance Commissioner and in a number of positions in Massachusetts state government. He holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of California at Berkeley, and a master’s degree in public policy from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government.
Lynn A. Blewett is Professor of Health Policy at the University of Minnesota, School of Public Health and director of the State Health Access Data Assistance Center (SHADAC), a multidisciplinary research center that provides data analytics and policy analysis to inform evidenced-based health policy. She works with state policy analysts and decision makers to better understand trends in health insurance coverage, Medicaid payment reform, and state budget implications of health reform proposals. She recently published her research on estimating the costs of a federal reinsurance program. Dr. Blewett holds a master’s degree in public affairs and a doctorate in Health Services Research and Policy from the University of Minnesota.
