Join us for a webinar on harm reduction and syringe services programs. Kathy Chinn with the Minnesota Department of Health will share an overview of syringe services programs and how they impact the work to address the opioid epidemic and prevention of infectious diseases.

Curious about harm reduction, but not sure what it is? Want to understand the difference between needle exchange and syringe services programs? Would you like to learn about the full spectrum of services for people who inject drugs in Minnesota? Get the answers to these questions and understand why syringe services programs are vitally important to curbing the opioid epidemic and preventing infectious diseases.

This webinar is designed for public health practitioners, although students, medical professionals, and professionals from other industries are welcome to join the webinar. SPH alumni and friends of SPH are especially encouraged to attend.

Kathy Chinn, BA is the Perinatal Prevention and Syringe Services Coordinator for the Minnesota Department of Health. Ms. Chinn has worked in the arena of drug user health, sexual health and HIV/STD prevention for over twenty years. She has experience as a grant manager of state funded HIV and STD prevention education contracts, disease investigation, and community outreach. Ms. Chinn is passionate about social justice, health equity, community involvement and public health. She holds a BA from Macalester College and is also a certified birth doula.

This webinar is the second installment of our Public Health Lecture Series. The 2019 lecture series is planned by the SPH Alumni Society Engagement Committee.
