SPH Transition to Canvas

The SPH transition from Moodle to Canvas is almost complete! With the start of the fall 2019 semester, active teaching will take place in Canvas; Moodle will no longer be available for course sites.

The Office of E-Learning Services continues to provide significant training and support during the fall 2019 and spring 2020 transitions for faculty, staff and students.

For Faculty, Staff & TAs

Canvas Online Training
All faculty, staff, and TAs are encouraged to enroll in the SPH Canvas Orientation & Training course site and complete the training. It highlights the basics of Canvas, and details effective practices, including how to use SPH course templates.

OIT Moodle to Canvas Course Content Transfer
In partnership with the UMN Office of Information Technology (OIT), SPH E-Learning Services has developed a process for faculty who would like OIT to migrate their existing Moodle content into Canvas, producing a course site in a pared-down version of the SPH Canvas course template. Please allow up to 6 weeks for your course transition to be completed.

  • For Fall 2019: Submit your request to OIT as soon as possible. Availability may be limited.
  • For Spring 2020: Submit your request no later than October 1, 2019.

To get started, complete the OIT Request Moodle to Canvas Course Migration (Transition) Assistance Form.

For Students

Online Canvas Orientation
All SPH students are encouraged to self-enroll in the Student Canvas Orientation site. This training will walk students through a few steps they can take before classes begin to make Canvas work well for them, provides instructions on basic activities in Canvas, and also points to other online or campus resources we’ve found useful for students in online courses.
