Agenda & Courses
Between on-campus sessions, students complete seven-week online courses during each semester:

  • Spring: Four days on campus, two courses
  • Summer: Two courses
  • Fall: Two Courses
  • Spring: Three days on campus,  one course

Spring Semester
March: Four days on campus. Organizational Integration in Health Care Delivery (1 credit). On campus visit also includes: welcome dinner, panels, and speakers and introduction to remaining five courses.

Spring Semester (second half)
Online. Health Care Strategies in Competitive Markets (2 credits)

Summer Semester
Online. Forensic Finance as Applied to Integrated Health Systems (2 credits)

Fall Semester
Online. Leading Your Health System Through Changing Payment Methods and Models (2 credits)

Fall Semester (second half)
Online. The Science of Decision Making (2 credits)

Spring Semester
Online. Strategic Capital Planning, Capital Formation and Strategic Capital Allocation and Investment.

Spring Semester
March:  Three days on campus.  Practicum.  (The practicums leads students to identify and select an important organizational challenge or opportunity to be “worked up” within the framework of the MHA problem-solving process.  As the students progress through the certificate curriculum, they apply their learning from the first six courses to their final project report and presentation.)


Students in the certificate program are expected to master skills in leadership in integrated systems, organizational design, managing the embedded medical practice, strategy and financial analysis in health care organizations.

For clinical professionals and others working in the integrated systems, these skills are critical to the development of their careers and to their mobility within their organization and the field. Specific benefits expected to accrue to those who complete the course include the following:

  • Enhanced ability to lead in integrated systems
  • Expanded ability to make decisions about the most efficient use of resources
  • Abilities in designing integrated systems
  • Better grasp of strategy, finance and other systemwide perspectives in integrated systems, and accompanying ability to better participate in strategic decision-making in the organization
  • Deeper understanding of issues in quality and safety in integrated systems
  • Larger conceptual framework on which to base learning and other developmental activities in the future
